My female main character just told someone she's dyslexic. News to me, but that's how my characters roll <3 and it may perhaps help ground something else about her as a secondary consequence of childhood struggles with reading.
I've read a lot but it's all professional overviews and such, not enough from people who actually are. Right now I'm looking for small things I can tuck in which will suggest dyslexia to attentive, aware readers without spelling it out. She is 32 and those who are closest to her will be well used to working with her needs.
A few childhood memories can be tucked in as well.
Another question for those with dyslexia, if someone suggests reading novels out loud to her, would that be likely to work or might there still be difficulties with following everything? I understand there's a range of differences but I'd like to have her be fairly representative that way if I do include that sort of scene. Or maybe he suggests novels and she asks for short stories?
I'd like to do better than just 'trouble reading' and consequently struggled at school.
Her possibly relevant characteristics (things mentioned on the overview sites) which can't change - she is very adept physically and has excellent spatial awareness, reaction times, navigation skills and such. No dyspraxia or ADHD. If there's any executive dysfunction, it needs to be limited and compensated for well. She needs to be quick-witted, adaptable and confident she can hold her own in conversation with people who are trying to get the upper hand too.
But so far there's only one scene where she reads or writes anything and that can be altered. It's almost like she's been trying to tell me this all along.
I hope this makes sense. If you feel the need to tell me how wrong I am, please be gentle with your vehemence.

I really really badly want to read Poke/James fic, there's like none!! I think they have a really fun dynamic, they're basically inseparable. I would say they're almost like the same mind in two bodies. They are infesting my brain lately.
I think this is my most wanted out of all my requests. There's absolutely no content for this SMP or these guys in general which makes me really sad.
I really like interpreting James as being like, very emotionally reserved and hiding it under being "the funny guy" and "the problem causer".
Likes: Alien (vaguely Slowpoke-esque) Poke, avian James, trans male James, mutual pining, chaos, avian courtship, the rest of Roughhouse terrorizing Michael, Michael/Luna as secondary pairing, Michael in general (he's really funny)

I am OBSESSED with the dynamic between Travis and Joko in Mirai SMP. They're very "toxic yaoi". However I'm really not a fan of the possession plot twist so please just disregard that entirely!
I would love to see some relationship study on how their roles sort of shift towards the opposite as the game goes on, with Travis hardening up and using his crazy emotional intelligence to read Joko like a book and Joko struggling to keep up his apathetic, intimidating persona.
Especially with how the underlying guilt Travis has with Cooper's death and his falling out with Techno plays into it. Super fascinating stuff.
I'd also really love to read an AU where they win and get out together with their plan to exploit the bounty on Techno.
The fic can be read on here or on Wattpad, no SMPLive knowledge is needed at all.

I have a couple different ideas in mind:
- Building off the SMP and "I raised his property value" where Cooper rebuilds Joko's house in the sky could be fun
- I love the modded episodes, especially the more fantasy-based ones like the Aether and the Twilight Forest ones, I'd love to see something based on one of those with worldbuilding and such
- I really love Travis and there's not a lot of good fic about any of his characters, so anything centered on him would be nice. A lot of stuff writes his characters as naive or childish when he's not and it frustrates me because I love how he's incredibly intelligent and can read people like a book despite his shenanigans. Farmer's Market -- 13 December 2025 (Reed Plant Day, 23rd of Frost, Year 234)
Thick-slice bacon, a dozen eggs, bacon-gruyere wheel, spinach pastry, lemon tart, rosemary pull-apart rolls, gingerdoodle cookies, a quart of chicken & dumpling soup, a quart of pickled red onions, cranberry chevre, farmhouse goat cheese, apple cider, apples (Nittany, Braeburn, Stayman), shallots, red onions, garlic heads, white turnips, grilled spiced olives, Greek country mixed olives, and a pound of black beans.
I talked briefly with an elderly woman who had just moved into the area and was attending the market for the first time -- she was trying to find organic apples. I don't think you can really grow apples here as a market farm organically. There are just too many critters that love to chomp on apples here, but I hope she finds something she is willing to buy.
I plan to make another apple-shallot pie tomorrow; I'll be working extra to get ready for the quarterly report at work, but I am also likely to be snowed in, since the forecast is snow, 1 to 5 inches.
My fridge failed Monday and it took the housing office until Wednesday (2 maintenance requests, 2 follow up phone calls, and 1 email to the property mananger cc'd to the county councilor's aide for housing issues) to get it replace. I had to throw out everything but hard cheese and vinegar-based condiments, so I shopped a little more aggressively than usual this week.
I talked briefly with an elderly woman who had just moved into the area and was attending the market for the first time -- she was trying to find organic apples. I don't think you can really grow apples here as a market farm organically. There are just too many critters that love to chomp on apples here, but I hope she finds something she is willing to buy.
