As I understand it, the process of giving an egg away involves first handing over the code to the egg. The recipient logs in and goes to that url at a pre-arranged time. Page says dragon has already been taken, recipient starts madly refreshing. Then the giver abandons the egg - and with a bit of luck it is neatly caught by the madly refreshing recipient.

At least, that's how I understand it.

Mind you, the transfer will have to wait until tomorrow. Last time I picked up an egg by mistake from the cave itself it wouldn't let me abandon it right away. But it's all yours.
