Speaking of Oscar

So, stayed up late to watch the Oscars. Not that it was the right people (read: Depp) who won, but at least it wasn´t the wrong people. And there was the occasional nice moment (patriotic squee: Lumet thanked among others Carl Th. Dreyer. And I didn´t know there was an award named after a man from Denmark...). Loved the costume award presenter. :-) No fun with the people who didn´t get to go on stage, though. Come on, it´s not like they get much more!

It´s strange how often the Oscars break off - commercials, I suppose. I think I would lose my temper very quickly if I had to watch tv that was interrupted so often. Even the worst channels in Denmark aren´t half that bad. But at least the breaks gave the Danish commentators a chance to blabber on and me a chance to go to the bathroom without missing any of the fun... Speaking of Danish commentators, they have gotten better - not that the comments are any more insightful, but at least they confine themselves to the breaks - the year some Dane won best short I wanted to strangle the presenters. I don´t sit up all night to hear them do on the spot interviews without any preparation, while some of us are trying to hear what the people on stage are saying. And the years where they constantly tried to translate everything *shudder*. People who stay up all night to watch American award shows usually know enough English not to need it, so I am grateful they have stopped that abominable practice.

And now I am a little worn out - didn´t really get enough sleep - will probably go to bed early tonight (no, wait, can´t - I mean, Lost... - or I could use the magic of video...)

read: DiCaprio? *grin*

I got way too little sleep too, but not because of the Oscars. Time for a midday-nap.

DiCaprio would definitely have been the wrong people.

Sweet dreams :-)

This morning, someone on the radio said who had won, because I overslept the whole event. I was glad to finally sleep through the night again and not to wake up in the middle of it, so I didn't even put my alarm clock on. When I heard that Johnny Depp hadn't made it, I was a bit sad, of course, because he had truly deserved it. But Leo hadn't won either, so I was cool. And in the afternoon, I bought the Rolling Stone magazine and read that Johnny had felt uncomfortable at the Oscars 2004 because of the whole atmosphere and he had been relieved when the winner had been someone else than him. And I understand that. It can be seen that he doesn't do it for the money or for any prize. He does it for himself and for the people who matter to him. :)

Perhaps Johnny Depp doesn´t do it for the money or prizes or anything, but that doesn´t mean that he doesn´t deserve an award. A big award. Or several. He has already had so many great parts. But maybe they are going to continue nominating him once in a while, but never actually giving him anything - and in 20 years or so he will be given a lifetime achievement award and we will get to see one of those big montages with clips from all the films he´s been in (like "Private resort" - nah) and hear a long, well-prepared thank you speech. Actually, that would be cool...

Yes, he really deserves the awards he's nominated for (and those he isn't nominated for, too, because he's great in every movie). He is one of the few actors who can really embody everything and succeed. And he chooses the alternative movies and roles, not the mainstream ones. That alone should make him win the oscar!

I can really picture your suggestion of a lifetime achievement award for Johnny... And "Private Resort"? I guess they should supply large oxygene tents for the guests then... o_O
