Because it was a strange coincidence, and it bothered me.

Right, so, I had three people asking me to interview them on the interview meme thing, and - because it had just been good ol´ H.C.´s birthday - I asked them all what their favourite Hans Christian Andersen fairytale was.

Now, this guy wrote a lot of fairytales - and I really do mean a lot.

And yet, two out of three answered "The Little Mermaid". Now, this might simply have something to do with the fact that there seems to be a certain sea-orientation among my flist, but...

So I ask all who read this to comment and tell me: what is your favourite Hans Christian Andersen fairytale? Because this got me curious. I´ll even go first: mine´s "The Elfin Hill". So, what´s yours?

I don't like Mermaid, the end is sad and gory. Er. I mean the original version, not the Disney one.

Favourite is and will be Wild Swans. :) Loved it as a child, love it still. It's uncommonly sweet by his standards.

"The Wild Swans". (I admit, I had to check the title.) That image of making shirts from stinging nettles always stayed with me.
