Questions from [personal profile] the_dala

1. Who's the one famous person you'd most like to slap, living or dead?
Currently, Sarah Palin. Which probably shows an unhealthy interest in the politics of a country that isn't even mine...

2. Favorite item in your closet right now?
My summer jacket. I just put it away until next year (because I am a hopeless optimist who always waits too long before accepting that summer has come and gone).

3. What book do you think should be required reading for all humanity?
Much as I love books, I don't think any book should be required reading - for two reasons. Firstly, because that sort of thing always causes way too much trouble, and secondly, since forcing people to read a book is the surest way to make them hate it for life, then it would be counter-productive. Which doesn't answer the question, but well...

4. Favorite line from the PotC trilogy?
I can only pick one? What kind of a cruel person would force me to limit myself to one? Mind you, "bring me that horizon" is pretty good. Probably because it allows my imagination to take it from there. But I also love all those snarky moments between Jack and James...

5. If you were a Hollywood writer/director, what novel or historical event would you most like to adapt to film, and who would you cast for the leads?
The Bombardment of Copenhagen in 1807. Done as a really huge movie, the sort you need a Hollywood budget for. You'd have evil scumbag British politicians, noble British officers forced to do their duty despite it being distasteful and dishonourable, a crazy genius running around with rockets, an arrogant and incompetent Danish crown prince, Danish officers stuck in an impossible situation, brave citizens doing their best, a huge set with the old Copenhagen city burning - including, on the third night, the tower on Vor Frue church with the copper melting off and something maybe Gregorian music playing. And the ships sailing away at the end, after the British has pillaged and plundered their weasly black guts out at Holmen. And a cast with all the best British and Danish actors - probably some Norwegian and German ones too, considering the history. Maybe Nicolai Coster-Waldau could do the Crown Prince. And Sean Bean would have to be somewhere in the British forces - as would Jack Davenport, of course. And someone would have to play the crazy kings...

Of course, it's never going to happen. Who cares enough about Danish history to make a movie actually worth watching about it? Besides, how realistic is it to hope for a movie set during the Age of Napoleon with the British as the villains?
