As I think I've mentioned, I signed up for this year's remix-redux - then waited with baited breath for the day all the stories would be available - well, in between working on my own story (and I might be willing to let whoever manages to guess which of the remixes is mine (hint: there's only one) give me a story prompt (porridgebird can have one for free, if she wants?) - although my usual writing speed would mean there's no guarantees as to how long it would take.).
Anyway, someoneremixed punked one of my stories. Twice. (Or possibly they are two someones, but I'm operating on the theory that it's one remixer - for now.) And I am just going to squee about that a bit.
Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Ahem. Right.
The story that has inspired this level of creativity is The Very Model of a Modern Librarian. Maybe you remember it - it's the one with library ships and wih Jack the pirate luring James the librarian back to his cabin. I'm actually rather fond of that story.
Anyway, both of the remixes keep the central premise and the central story, but they go very different ways. The first one is steampunk. It has library airships! Which really says it all, doesn't it? The title is I've Information Academic, Highbrow and Contrarian (Clean Steam Dance Remix) and it is pure awesome.
The second one is I Am the Very Model of a Cyberpunk Librarian (Dirty Dub Mix). The first one basically retold the central story as the original in a different setting. This one takes all those little futuristic throw-away hints in my story and turns the whole thing into the kind of full-fledged cyberpunk story I very intentionally didn't write - and it is cool. Even better is the fact that it turns the focus away from just Jack and James and explores the rest of this Tortuga and all the other characters. And it turns Groves into a dolphin. Even if there was no other reason to love it, I'd love it for that. Dolphin Groves is delicious.
In short, loving both remixes to bits - they're gorgeous and awesome and so full of details. I think I'm actually a tiny bit jealous, actually, which is kind of pointless, of course. Anyway, you really should go read them. Now. Why are you still reading this?
Anyway, someone
