Work was closed today (might have practiced my evil laugh at the sight of the people who hadn't seen the signs or the print on their receipts or the webpage or the ad in the local free paper and showed up anyway and stood outside the door, looking like confused puppies at its stubborn refusal to open).
Ahem.
Work was closed because we - the staff - was spending the day basically salivating over all the cool things you can do with modern technology. That is, before lunch we had a couple of guest speakers - one from Innovation Lab (can anyone tell me the real difference between science fiction and future studies - other than science fiction usually being more realistic and not predicting the end of libraries within a decade and future studies tending not to have plotlines?), the other a gentleman running a radio show about new stuff and online stuff and stuff. After lunch we sat down in groups and were supposed to dream up all the awesome things we could think of, that we would want at work.
The future, my friends, is a wonderful place full of rfid chips and augmented reality and touch screens and gadgets and gizmos and himstregimser. Mostly himstregimser. And it is awesome.
