Have been to Venice. It hasn't drowned yet. And I did not buy a mask, mostly because I was very unconvinced that I'd have been able to get it home in an un-squashed state. But oh, they are gorgeous things. I so wanted to (but if I had bought one, I would have had to choose! How could I?!) (Also, I learned it's a Venetian who invented the pocketbook (bless him) and the modern comma (damn him to the depths) - Aldo Manuzio. And having seen stuff by Claire Falkenstein at the Guggenheim museum, I will now only to be able to imagine a "Castle Falkenstein" as an elaborate edifice in tangled metal latticework with lumps of brightly coloured glass.

In other news, this year's Crazy Christmas Cabaret has been announced: Shakin' Up Sherwood. No points for guessing the theme of the year. The tickets go on sale the 18th.

Actually, I got an e-mail about being able to buy tickets before the 18th, by just sending an e-mail. But I don't know if it's far too early to try to find out who can/wants to come this year - especially considering how some of the usual suspects are abandoning these shores for foreign parts and all.
