Another year, another Yuletide approaching fast.

Hello, Dear Yulegoat. I hope you are going to have an excellent exchange and I'm very much looking forward to seeing what you'll write for me.

First, a few general bits.

Things I generally like in fic: slash and gen; plot; snark; fluff; banter; happy endings; awesome characters being awesome; crack; twisty plots; AUs of the if-this-single-thing-had-gone-differently type; surprises.

Dislikes & squicks: non-con; a/b/o, seme/uke, sub/dom and any and all similar power dynamic tropes; very kinky sex (heavy bdsm, watersport, etc.); underage; kidfic; bestiality; mpreg; pwp; genderswap; incest; OC love interests; high-scool and coffeeshop AUs.

If you're the type to stalk your Yuletide victim before pouncing, your best bet these days would be to take a look at my tumblr.

Right. Let's get on to the requests, shall we?

Freddy & Monstrene - Dennis Jürgensen
Freddy
I'd love a story about Freddy as a grown-up - possibly having finally convinced himself/been convinced that no, he didn't run around with a bunch of monsters as a boy - re-encountering the gang. Though truth be told, I'll love you to bits for almost anything in this fandom.

Okay, so this is a repeat request. If you're not a Dane, you're probably not familiar with the book series. It's from the 80s and tells the story of a nerdy boy, Freddy, who befriends a group of friendly monsters. By day they pretend to be the horror cabinet of the local museum, by night they have adventures with Freddy.

I adored the books as a kid and must have read them a few times. They are quite ridiculous, actually. The monsters feature, among others, a very dapper werewolf with a love of classic rock, a burping dragon, and Count Dracula himself (who has changed his diet to raspberry soda, as human blood is too polluted in this day and age.) And there were adventures - to Egypt, to Romania, to the Himalayas. Actually, if you're not feeling the Freddy-as-a-grown-up prompt, I'd love another adventure - either set before the final novel or just having the monsters get back in touch with Freddy after a year or two, because why not? They have a dragon, they can get around. I'd love to see the background story of one of the monsters the books didn't cover. Does Boris have a mad scientist dad out there somewhere in an old windmill?

If that doesn't catch you either, well, really, almost anything with this fandom I'd love. Or you could do a crossover with Krøniker fra Kvæhl? (The original 80s version, not the 2nd edition with cell phones added). Freddy meeting Arnold and Catharina and sharing stories would be fun. (Also, F&M Dracula would be so offended at the various vampiric monsters from Kvæhl. And Eddie would be horrified at Lusingando's lack of fashion sense.)

The Innsmouth Legacy - Ruthanna Emrys
Aphra Marsh
I would love a story about Aphra continuing to learn more about her ancestry and mysteries of her people. Maybe visiting one of the pre-Innsmouth breeding grounds - maybe there are still mist-blooded to be found in England and further back, after all. Maybe something delving into why, while the Men of the Air have clearly spread all over, why do the Water folk limit themselves to the Atlantic? Or something more domestic, with Aphra and her Confluence settling in together at some point without all the excitement and hostile agents that the book covered periods have.

I should probably admit right up front, that the first book, Winter Tide, is my favourite out of the two published. I like it's focus on the slowly growing found family of Aphra Marsh and her re-discovery of her heritage more than the more sequel, which... I dunno. Maybe I just like that the first novel focused on found family and while especially the un-named Yith is a horror, then the Deep Ones of this narrative aren't. They're just people with different biology and more claws. And I especially liked that Aphra wins through by being genuinely kind. There was less of that in the second novel and more focus on the Mi-Go as scary "communists".

I wouldn't say that I'm completely "fluent" in Lovecraft, but I've read a fair amount, so if you want to write something taking a stab at a so-far unexplored-in-this-canon bit of the mythos, I'd be happy. Or something exploring the Aeonist religion - some holidays we haven't seen yet? Or maybe a crossover story? Since I read the books, I can't help but feel that they'd cross very well with The Shape of Water, with the Fish-man of the movie being an Elder, perhaps of a different branch, and Elisa being a mistblooded orphan. Or maybe - really. Surprise me?

Medieval Manuscript Illustrations
Battle snail
I am curious about the battle snails. Was there an invasion of giant snails in some otherwise probably-not-quiet-as-it-was-the-middle-ages corner of Europe, prompting the local lords to send out there knights? Are they specially bred jousting snails? Is there a mad scientist monk somewhere shrinking brave knights to combat the pests in his herbal garden?

I wonder which monk first decided to paint a snail in the margins of one of this fine books? I mean, clearly it grew into a meme of sorts in monastic circles for a while, but I wonder what prompted that first one? And don't tell me politics and satire and having to get the snails away from the carrots and strawberries. Really, for this, I'm first and foremost asking for the battle snails to be played, well, straight. Not as metaphor. It can be dark and serious, it can be utterly ridiculous - but let there be actual giant snails (or very tiny knights.)

Maybe they are from outer space? Maybe they are a curse by the local deities being mad at the Christians having taken/taking over? Maybe they are inexplicable? Maybe a bunch of time travellers arrive and freak out, because nobody said anything about giant snails in 9th century Germany? Or ditto a visitor from foreign parts touring Europe and just casually adding really big snails to the list of weird things these people have? Maybe the fact that the French still eat snails as a delicacy can be traced back to the feast after the last battle of the great war Charlemagne waged against the true enemy of mankind?

深夜食堂 | Shinya Shokudo | Midnight Diner (TV)
Kosuzu, Kensaki Ryu
I'd like something focusing on these two and their friendship. I'm not so much looking for slash for this pairing, more their slightly odd friendship - Kosuzu and Ryu helping each other out, other people's reactions, etc. Although, if you do have any ideas for a slash fic, I will definitely not be disappointed.

I adore this tv show. I came across the fourth season on Netflix, fell in like and managed to track down the first three seasons. I like the quiet, often (but not always) feel-good mood and the small slice of life dramas of the show. Also the food. And the characters: the Master, his more or less peculiar regulars - they all seem nice and interesting.

And yeah, I like Ryu and Kosuzu and their friendship. I'd like to see more of it, one way or another. Maybe a rival group of yakuza try to shake down Kosuzu's bar? Maybe Ryu needs somewhere to hide for a few days? Maybe, for reasons that don't need to be explored at this moment, they end up going on holiday to the same nice hot springs? If that's not inspiring you, I wouldn't object to fic focusing on the Master - his past, where did he get that scar, for instance? Or maybe a story mixing the usual slice-of-life drama of the show with a supernatural element - maybe there's a kitsune regular we haven't met yet? Or a crossover with "Samurai Gourmet"? That's a cute show, and I could easily see Takeshi and his wife on vacation and stumbling into the restaurant more or less by accident.
