21. I am legend
Okay, so it's a perfectly entertaining waste of my time, even if the ending disappointed me. Although those little 'animated comics' on the dvd were interesting. Alas, one main problem with the movie was its vision of New York - but I blame my problem with it on just having read The World Without Us by Alan Weisman (which is an interesting book - very evocative writing) and therefore feeling that there ought to be more kudzu and more broken windows...
22. Lark Rise to Candleford series 1.
This is good. This is very good. Gorgeous, too.
23. Hancock
Why they had to waste time on some contrived side-plot involving villains when they had a perfectly fine superhero-learning-to-be-superhero and the whole relationship between Hancock, his wife and the wife's husband could have been expanded. Such a waste. (Also, having read a few fan fic for this, I am left wondering if the American release didn't have the scene with the girl and the trailer and the shooting of holes in the trailer or if fan fic writers are just ignoring it).
24. Män som hatar kvinnor (Men who hate women)
This is me, refusing to use that ridiculous official English title. It's stupid. Anyway. Good movie. Very good. Lisbeth Salander is - not quite how I imagined her, but are they ever. The rape scenes are appropriately nasty, the revenge scene is not quite viscerally satisfactory enough, but what do you do. Admittedly, they left out a bunch of the novel, focusing on the closed island / serial killer story, and added a couple of nice flashbacks to Lisbeth's childhood. All in all, a perfectly fine movie. Looking forward to the next - I want to see Lisbeth Salander kicking ass (even if she really is just a godmode Mary Sue, if you stop to think about it - but why bother, when you are being entertained?)
25. Majo no takkyûbin (Kiki's delivery service)
Awww. Also, did I mention that my former place of work had a small exhibit of manga stuff (small as in person who works there had been on holiday to Japan and brought stuff home for himself). One of those things were Kiki's cat. Mind you, the most adorable one was one of those little coal-dust-things from Spirited Away as a plush toy.
26. Left behind
I blame the Slacktivist. Only recommended in small doses and not taken seriously.
27. Juno
So, Vern Schillinger had a daughter and then married C.J. Cregg. Kind of. Also, for a remarkably smart girl, you'd think Juno would have maybe considered using a condom. Of course, then there wouldn't have been a lot of movie...
28. Slumdog millionaire
Oscar bait, but quite entertaining. Would have liked some warning about the opening torture scene, though.
29. Nezha nao hai (Little Nezha fights great dragon kings)
I wonder what it says about me that a favourite movie in my childhood is about a boy hero kicking dragon ass and commiting suicide about 2/3rds through the story. It's a very heroic suicide, but still. Of course, my primary memories tend to be about the parties in the Dragon Kings undersea palace. Anyway. This is good. Very good. And everybody should go watch (even if the English dub has its silly moments). Funny thing, though - when I first saw this, I wasn't very old, and it was the English dub. I couldn't understand it and I couldn't even read the subtitles. Very young. So I just watched and tried to make sense of what was on the screen - and what I saw was a child with a funny hairstyle and occasionally short skirts, and everybody kept calling it 'Naja'. Well, what can I say - it was years before I realized I wasn't watching a girl hero kicking dragon ass, etc.
30. Longitude
Quite interesting, and lots of nice blink-and-you'll-miss-him cameos.
