Heh. I actually think Reaper Man was my first Discworld, too, followed by Lords and Ladies, and Men At Arms. The Death novels seem to be a great gateway into the series. *grins* Though if I had to pick who left the earliest marks on my language, it's probably be a combo of Jules Verne and Arthur Conan Doyle (my dad was a massive Holmes fan), or fairytales. So, you know. Rather ecclectic, and archaic. That's me. *grins*
And yeah, I've seen that video, or most of that video. And by all accounts, the production isn't that far wrong, considering that Edison arranged for the public electrocution of an elephant in an effort to discredit AC power. *shakes head in amazement* Pretty damn vicious, those 19th century tycoons ...
