Just watched As Time Goes By. Part of me found it a little convenient that apparently the Winchesters have a legacy as scholars of the supernatural, part of me would like to see where they are going to go with this Men of Letters thing.

That said, mostly I felt that they just wasted two interesting characters. I would have liked to have both Henry and Abaddon survive - Henry because the boys could do with some more support characters these days (and he'd be perfect to feed my love of "people from the past brought to present day" story kink, of which there was far, far too little in this episode, just saying - I wonder if there's fix-it fic?) and Abaddon, well, first because we can always use another woman character, but also, being the demonic counterpart to an archangel, well, wouldn't that make her the single most powerful Hell creature around in this post-apocalyptic present? Oh, the troubles she could have caused poor Crowley...

I felt the same way about Henry as you do, but I really liked the following episode, so maybe you will too?

I do think the Men of Letters thing was a very convenient retcon (especially since they never even tried to call Cas for help, wtf?), but it gives Sam and Dean a base to work from, and resources they haven't had for a while, so I'm rather hopeful that it will work well in the rest of the season.

Having seen the library, you may be right. There is a lot of stuff in there...

You'd think that the angels would want to deal with a Knight of Hell walking the earth. Though if it took archangels to kill them before, there probably aren't any angels strong enough to go toe-to-toe with Abaddon -- and let me tell you, the script being so specific about *that* made me wonder if that's a clue for later in the season.

Also, the time travel bugged me -- too easy for something that knocked the stuffing out of Castiel when he had to power it by himself, so why was it so easy for Henry? Otoh, maybe Henry's spell was easier because he was going forward instead of back?
