First there was nothing. Potentiality. Energy. Whatever. Then the Big Bang happened, and continues to happen - and from that point in space/time the explosion that is the universe has expanded, finite yet evergrowing. Outside of the universe - and there is an outside, since the universe is expanding and thus must have something to expand into - outside there is nothing? Something? Potential?
So what if, somewhere else in that infinite nothingness, another Big Bang happened, giving birth to another universe, finite yet expanding, different rules of nature from ours yet coherent in and of itself. Imagine that. Two universes, expanding through infinity, explosions that never cease.
And then, one day, the two universes collide.
Might not be the hardest case of sf, but maybe it'd work a space opera?
