Just watched Terminator Genisys. So you don't have to.

The thing that annoys me isn't that it's a pretty bland action movie (oh look, helicopters and explosions and having to be randomly naked in order to time travel) that gave away its biggest plot twist in the trailer, it's, well, that it's basically the opposite of Mad Max: Fury Road and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Those two movies have taken old franchises, which had heroes, male protagonists (okay, SW had awesome Leia too (I'm sorry, I haven't actually seen the original MM movies yet, shame on me - plans for 2016?) ) - anyway, you know what I mean. Very traditional, really. And they've been updated with awesome women characters and diversity and - I'm sure other people could say this a lot better than me.

And then there was Terminator, which had Sarah Connor as its hero. And how has it been updated? Oh, let's see - well, she now gets saved a lot. I mean, first impressions are fine: tough girl, raised by a Governator, turns the tables on Kyle Reese when he shows up expecting to save her - except Kyle Reese basically takes over, changing the plan-to-defeat-Skynet because of oh-so-conveniently appearing memories, saving the day, just.

The hero of Terminator Genisys is Kyle Reese. He has a Strong Female Character love interest named Sarah Connor. I could have lived without seeing that...
