I went to see The Danish Girl. Two things:

Copenhagen looks beautiful in this movie. Art deco, Hammershøi interiors, and they’ve found every little spot for a shot - I’d love a walking tour of the city just to visit all the places, except I know at least some of them aren’t that easily accesible (I recognised the old university library in Fiolstræde, which is not generally open to the public).

Second - Hans Axgil. So, I know the movie’s loosely based on reality, so to speak, so I doubt he was a straightforward real person - I mean, I assume he’s based on one or more real people, that’s usually how it works - but his name. That can’t be a coincidence, right? That’s a shout-out, right? Just. (Also, I may need to track down other stuff that actor’s been in). (Wait, if Lili was a woman and she was presumably still married to Gerda, does that make them the first same-sex married couple in Denmark? Oh, nevermind. This was all Hollywood, anyway. Maybe I should read the book. I’m pretty sure there’s a new book. I’ve been doing ILL requests for a new Lili Elbe book for loaners at work, though it might just be a reprint or something.)

Anyway, apart from that, okay movie - total Oscar bait and of course Lili dramatically dies in the end, because this is Hollywood and all. And somebody should slap Ben Whishaw’s character (Was he supposed to be something in the military/navy or was his Nyboder place just for the aesthetic? Was he one of those marines that they gay men of Copenhagen supposedly bought favours from sometimes?).
