You know, it's all very well that the Iranians have decided to start calling what they used to call danish pastries for Roses of the Prophet Mohammed - but, uhm, it might be a tad more efficient as a form of boycott if the population of Denmark was not already pretty puzzled about why other people call those pastries danish, since we all know that the proper word is Wienerbrød - that is: Vienna bread. So, really, it's all the Austrians fault... or something like that ;-)

Mmmmmmmh, RUM!!!! Gimme!

I DO like pastry, but I don't like [livejournal.com profile] elessil blaming the Germans! ;P

Hmmm. Just out of curiosity, what do Austrians actually call the pastries in question?

To be honest, I have no clue. I'd have to find out what they are in the first place to try telling you :)

(However, we do have the sausage conflict with the Germans. They call the sausages Wiener Würstchen, we call them Frankfurter)

Alright, Austrian here. Even from Vienna... And I have to admit I have no idea what they are either. But, national pride hurt, I consulted my trusted dictionary and it says: danish pastry = Plundergebäck. Which doesn't exactly help me either.
So I guess I'll have to agree with elessil and go back to the ancient austrian way of solving problems: When in doubt, blame the Germans ;o)

Which I will never understand. The sausages aren't really that bad that one can't take the blame for it. ;)

But the pastry is? Hmmm.

Hm - I wouldn't say that either. I quite like danish pastry if it is what I think it is. ;)

Germans call it Blätterteiggebäck. Or Plundergebäck. Something like that. I didn't even know it was Danish pastry... o_O
