Seriously. I mean, yesterday in class, the discussion managed to involve the Eurovision Song Contest. It was in a fairly intellectual manner, about how the contest has gone from being more focused on the actual songs to, as of late, being all about the show and visual elements - as seen for instance with this year's Danish contestant, who pretty much won on show, because if it had been purely about quality of song and singing, then my money would have been on someone like Stig Rossen. Of course, there is nothing new about the visual part of the Eurovision being important. After all, in Denmark it is commonly believed that we didn't win in 1957 despite an actually pretty good song, because of a visual element at the end of the performance, which apparently offended some particularly prudish southern Europeans. Of course, that was in the fifties.
And while looking around youtube for a video of the latter - which I found, though the quality is poor enough that I can almost imagine that this Gustav Winckler is actually Captain Jack Harkness stepping in, and besides, they seem to have cut a pretty big chunk out of the visual element at the end of the performance, since that is supposed to be something like 33 seconds long - anyway, while looking, I stumbled I stumbled across this very serious video, that gives a wonderful and accurate picture of Denmark during the Occupation (yeah, right). And afterwards I went on to learn that Denmark will be invaded by Tesco in the year 2013 - how awful. Will Netto not protect us?
Right, enough looking around for silly stuff for me.
