Right, so, after posting the weird laws list yesterday, I went looking for more. And more and more. Apparently people are weird all over the world. Very weird. And then I found a website with dumb, strange, silly and just plain weird laws organized after country and one of the countries was Denmark. How could I resist?

Before starting your car you are required to check lights, brakes, steering and honk your horn. Mind you, I don't think anybody actually does that, not even when taking their driver's licence.

If your vehicle stalls and you leave it on the side of the road, you must mark the vehicle with a red, reflecting triangle. Why is this strange?

If a horse drawn carriage is trying to pass a car and the horse becomes uneasy, the owner of the car is required to pull over and if necessary, cover the car. How often does a car drive slow enough for a horse drawn carriage to try to pass it, anyway?

Attempt to escape from prison is not illegal, however, if one he is caught he is required to serve out the remainder of his term.

No one may start a car while someone is underneath the vehicle.

Encrypting data files, owning, distributing etc. I am assuming they meant to continue this...

Headlights must be on whenever a vehicle is being operated in order to distinguish it from parked cars.

When driving, you must have someone in front of your car with a flag to warn horse drawn carriages that a motorcar is coming. Okay, so, I went looking for this law and I can't find it. Searched the laws I could find about traffic and maybe I missed, but I couldn't find it (found a law against riding while drunk, though). That said, I've heard about it in documentaries about the dawn of the age of cars, but I always assumed it has just been replaced by newer laws...

Any carport added to a building increases the value of the building by 15.

There is a penalty of 20kr for not reporting when a person has died. Which reminds me that I'll be wanting one of the new 20kr coins with the frigat Jylland on. And I am not going to not report anybody dead, so there will be no reason for me not to keep it :-)

Persons may not wear a mask.

A fee is levied on each purchaser of any plastic bottle which is returned upon return of the bottle.

One may not be charged for food at an inn unless that person, by his or her own opinion, is "full".

Restaurants may not charge for water unless it is accompanied by another item such as ice or a lemon slice.

So, in conclusion, apparently Danish traffic laws seem to be weird to others. Of course, most of this list left me wondering if other people really think this is weird, because, well, I mostly don't see it.

Ummm... duh? What else would they do? Let him go because he escaped once already...? ?_?

I had a whole book of these weird laws (in the US), but I leant it to someone and it went *poof!* :( I do remember one town having a law that said frogs were not allowed to croak after 10PM, though... I'd love to see them enforce that! LOL!

I like that.

And I don't see most of these as particularly weird, either.

A little request...I was hoping you could maybe have a look at this site for me:

Are they actually selling Deadwood there? Thanks in advance...sorry to be pesky...just, my Danish isn't the best :P

Short answer, no they are not selling Deadwood.

Long answer in two parts. Part one, the whole website is one of those where you can make lists of dvds you own, and there seems to be a bit of loaning them to each other, which could have been interesting, except... Part two, it's not Jack Davenport's Deadwood. Looking at registration numbers listed, as far as I can tell, it's the HBO series with some mixed up info - which makes more sense than some obscure Danish site selling a movie that nobody else seems to be able to get a hold of...

Sorry. :-(

Did you know that in Hood River, Oregon juggling is not allowed without a license? Or that in Brookfield, Wisconsin tattooing is illegal unless it is done for medical purposes? Or that in North Carolina it is illegal to sing off key? Or that it is illegal to cause a catastrophe in Utah?

Ah, those wacky Americans.

Hehehe, yep!

There's another one, similar to one you posted, where if a woman is driving a car, a man has to walk in front of it waving a red flag so that people are warned that it's a woman driving. :P

In California, it's illegal for a woman to drive a car while wearing a bathrobe/housecoat. XP

Again, similar to one you posted: If a horse is passing a car (??!) or vice-versa and the horse gets spooked, the car must pull over, turn off, and let the horse by. If the horse is still spooked, the car must be dismantled and the pieces hidden in the grass (!!) until the horse calms down again.

I've really gotta get that book back; I know I'm forgetting the really good ones...! :/
