So, I went to see Beowulf yesterday. It's okay - not a masterpiece, but okay (although it prompted some laughter in the cinema that probably wasn't intended, but that's what you get when you try to tell a bunch of Danes that Denmark is all about steep cliffs and mountains and snow enough to make an ice age).

Which doesn't explain why there is now a fic busily working its way out of me (and doesn't that sound gross?). Because I got an idea and went home to see if it would work. Turns out other, smarter people had had the same idea first, but that's okay, because I didn't know beforehand, and I still like it, so I'm working on it. I wonder if anyone will bother to read it, though - is there even a fandom for Beowulf?

This reminds me of 101 Dalmatians, which included raccoons - in Britain! What's wrong with foxes or badgers? I want to know. And Elizabeth: The Golden Age which, among other things, had Drake and Raleigh fighting the Armada together on the same ship. They have some strange ideas in Hollywood sometimes!

I would read your fic, although I haven't yet decided if I will go and see the film. If possible I would want to read Beowulf first (in modern English translation of course). I saw a trailer of The Golden Compass recently. It looked like it might be good, so I'd like to borrow a copy of His Dark Materials from the library.

Hollywood has nothing but strange ideas, and especially about Denmark or so it seems. I could go on a very long rant about The Prince and Me", but I wont. Actually, Beowulf reminded me a bit of an old Hamlet movie from Russia I've seen - it had cliffs and gorges and more such spectacular scenery around Elsinore, which I must admit never having noticed around here before. Maybe I should get new glasses ;-)

My personal favourite strange idea of Hollywood's, though, has to be the random armadillos in Castle Dracula.

I read His Dark Materials a few years ago and still haven't decided if I liked or hated the trilogy, so I'm not sure if I'll be going to see the movie. Will probably have to wait until other people start having an opinion to decide if I want to.
