The sun is shining, the sky is blue and I have buttermilk in the refrigerator - three guesses what I'll be having for dinner :-)

Koldskål!!! Yet another delightful Danish culinary product that I can't eat. :P

Buttermilk in some mysterious Danish traitional form? Please elaborate for us?

Correct - specifically koldskål. Which directly translates as cold bowl, but is usually explained as a form of cold buttermilk soup. It's an extremely popular summer dish here in Denmark - if for once the summer is really hot and sunny, a slow newsday will always end up informing people that the dairies can't keep up with the demand for either buttermilk or the finished product for the lazier individuals (and trust me, if you're to lazy to make your own koldskål, then you are lazy indeed). I suppose technically it ought to be a dessert, but it's pretty much treated as dinner mostly.

Anyway, I think I'll leave it to youtube to explain how to make it, if you're interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1Ry3aH0-ho . They make it with fruit, which is one option. Another is simply drinking it plain. Most common, though, is a type of small crunchy cookies called kammerjunker and sometimes raisins. But really, to each there own.
