I'm considering whether it might be fun to go see Robin Hood in Ulvedalene this summer... (I also took a look at this year's Viking Play at Frederikssund, but it doesn't sound that interesting - though I think I'd rather like to see the Viking Play some year. Just, not this one, I think. It's a bit far to go for "doesn't sound that interesting".)
It doesn't help that searching for "Vikings" has a tendency to bring up loads and loads of stuff, not much of it really relevant (damn American football teams and their naming traditions, yes?).
Anyway, I have found Vikings fanvids - mostly on Youtube - just not yet any that I would call an unconditional rec. There seems to be a bit too much fondness for colour filters in this fandom, a tendency to have canon speech in the middle of an otherwise decent vid, lack of creativity (I count at least three vids so far using the series intro song), stuff like that. I dunno, maybe I just have developed embarrassingly high standards for fanvids?* Of course, it doesn't help that it's only a 9 episode season and even some of the major characters don't have that much screentime (not that a short canon is in itself an excuse - just look at all the amazing movie fanvids out there, or series like Sherlock).
In any case**, I haven't got any uncondonitional recs. I do have a few conditional ones***.
I Belong With You for all the (extended) family feels. Recommended for dealing with episode 8 & 9 induced trauma.
Wayfaring Stranger, a very nice Athelstan vid that mostly suffers from having only ep. 2 & 3 material to work with.
Bedroom Hymns - an OT3 vid, which seems to be rare. Ragnar/Athelstan vids are already relatively common (and pretty much all of them use the same clips), but there's not nearly enough OT3 in the vid part of this fandom. The editing isn't perfect, but I find myself liking it anyway.
Breath of Life, which is too short, but works quite well as a trailer-style vid. The same goes for Welcome to the new age, except that one would be considerably improved if the vidder hadn't stuck a huge signature in the corner (and stayed away from the colour filters)...
In any case, dear flist, help me? Because I'm still searching for the Vikings fanvid that I won't just like, but love - have you any to point me at?

**Yes, I am deliberatily working on including this turn of phrase in my active vocabulary, why do you ask?

I dislike reccing things. It's not that I don't find things awesome, fantastic, rec-worthy. I do. What I don't is trust my own judgment. Not really. Not with recs, not with my writing, not with most things. I keep waiting for somebody to point out how atrocious/horrible/crappy it is, whatever it is. And isn't this just pathetic, writing a post about that. *rolls eyes at self*
