12. Up in the air
This is a very fun movie and manages not to cheapen the drama in it by succumbing to a happy ending.
13. The 10th kingdom
This is fun. Great fun. Admittedly, the people visiting fairytale country and promptly breaking all the rules that the rest of us has known since childhood - getting a bit old. The father was just annoying. And in places the story was a bit long. But I love Wolf - even if the story can't even seem to decide whether wolves are really victims of prejudice or only occasionally. The fact that the Shepherd-village seems to forget all about the terrible wolf in their midst after the trial... yeah. You know, I kept waiting for a reveal that Wolf was actually a secret agent planted by Queen Riding Hood (because the queens of that land has a history with wolves). Also, what's with the name - I mean, a wolf named Wolf? Was his parents really that unoriginal, or maybe wolves are like the Q? Or maybe wolves don't need names among themselves, because they identify each other primarily by sent, and so, if one winds up among humans, they just use whatever they feel like? Anyway, very fun. Want sequel. Doubt the possibility of one this late in the game, though...
14. Star trek
Yes, I am the last person on Earth to actually watch this. So sue me. It was fun, and I particularly liked Spock (even if I kept waiting for him to start cutting people's heads open). Liked the crew - Chekov is just adorable, in particular, and of course there's Uhura. You know, I get why fandom bitched about Uhura getting turned into the love interest. However, I also think that the movie people were faced with a situation, where people were going to bitch anyway. See, this movie is all about Spock and Kirk (Kirk, by the way, being the least interesting person in the movie - and in my eyes completely unsuited for the captaincy that everybody else seems to be conspiring to fight fate to get him, but I digress). Now, don't forget, Kirk/Spock is the original slashy couple. As in the actual / in slash. And these days it's pretty hard for creators to not be perfectly aware of this kind of thing - I mean, look at Supernatural, for instance. So, the makers had two choices. Either make subtext text and make Brokeback Mountain in space! or make sure that nobody could mistake them for a couple-couple. Of course, Kirk is shown with a greenskinned space babe, but in this age of future men gladly hitting on pretty girls and pretty Welsh boys alike, well, that's hardly conclusive. So, they needed Spock in a relationship. Now, they could have created a new girl character - but then the fans would have bitched about the Mary Sue. They could have genderswapped one of the non-female (read: non-Uhura) crewmembers - but, well, again, bitching. Or they could go with Uhura, who actually had some interesting moments in episodes with Spock in the original series. Not that all this even slowed the bitchers or the slashers down, but hey - and everybody probably already had these thoughts months ago, right? Right.
15. The golden compass
Fairly nice special effects (admittedly, the bears look kind of stupid, but hey - can't win them all). The story, well - I get why they stopped there, and if they had actually finished the book and never made sequels it would probably have been worse, but it kind of feels like the movie makers chickened out of making a serious effort.
16. Ils se marièrent et eurent beaucoup d'enfants
Boring mid-life crises and infidelity and stuff. I just watched for the five minutes with one Mr. Depp looking hot and tempting. I'm shallow.

I so agree with you about Kirk! I loved the whole idea of the Kobayashi Maru scenario as we were presented with it in ST:TWOK, but here they just made it unrealistic and silly.
Interesting theory about Uhura, and it makes perfect sense! Much as (some suspect) they used Elizabeth in the PotC sequels. ("Jack's not gay! See?") Kind of a shame they had to do that with Uhura, I would have loved to see where they could have taken that character otherwise. Maybe they still will.
