I'm not entirely sure why this movie version changes the setting from darkest Africa to the Arctic, though it makes more sense for a cavern dwelling tribe to develop cannibalistic habits than people in a fertile part of Africa...

83. Captain America: the First Avenger
Not as much fun as Thor, but still, quite entertaining - even though why Norse gods' treasures would be hidden in a church escapes me... anyway. Definitely looking forward to the Avengers movie, and mostly hoping it will consist of Iron Man, Thor, Loki and Captain America hanging out and bantering - it probably won't, but a girl can hope, right?

84. Sanctuary season 1.
I think I have fallen for this series - not so much for the concept, which though a decent enough variation of the standard monster hunter formula, isn't that much. And the CGI could be better, and some of the episode plotlines - I mean, seriosly? Tribbles? (Sorry, nubbins, but seriously?) - and I really wish Will got less screentime - I mean, does the actor have a screentime clause in his contract or something? I mean, he's a decent enough sidekick and damsel-in-distress, but as far as action heroes go, Henry's better - and Henry's more fun too.

85. Vampire Diaries season 2.
I'll sa this for Vampire Diaries - it's good at never letting you know which way it'll jump. Twist and turns are always fun - as is Damon and Alaric. We need more Damon and Alaric. Yes.

86. Castle season 3.
I dunno - it feels like this series is loosing it's touch a little bit. Or maybe it's just not moving. It's beginning to feel a little repetitive...

87. Sanctuary season 2.
88. Sanctuary season 3.
I must confess, though - it's The Five and the overarching plot and the flashbacks that's caught me most. Because the Five, they're - well, there's Peter Wingfield - and there's tall, bald and deadly - there's Helen (who I spend half the time liking and occasionally thinking is a bit of a bitch) - and there's a snarky, lively, morally ambiguous vampire who just happens to be Nikola Tesla (now if he could just stop taking credit for Turing's work...) - and there's Nigel, who I want to see more of - or not, as the case may be. But that's not it. That's the characters and they're fun, but.

See, there's something very sad about the Five, the way I see them - because the thing is, these people, they love each other. Oh, there's hate and hurt and betrayal in there, in their history, but underneath, at the core - these people do love each other. And the way I read it, they could have been so great - an OT5 - except they managed to - how to put it - miss the window of opportunity? They were a group of at least partly outcasts at Oxford - a woman, a foreigner, etc. - who shared this amazing thing, this amazing discovery. And I do believe they loved each other and could have wound up one big happy group, except, well, this was the Victorian Age. They didn't exactly have selfhelpbooks on how to be a succesful polyamorous five-some back then (if they did, I'd love a link?). I mean, four men and a woman - and I'm buying the theory of James being gay, and I seem to be busy convincing myself that Nikola Tesla might be asexual (yes, I know he's a champion flirt, but we never actually see him go further, and he only ever really flirts with Helen, the one person who is safe to flirt with, the one person who would never take it seriously - I mean, he does love her. Just... right, so theory still needs work, but the fact that RL Tesla might have been asexual himself (or not - the hardships of putting new identity concepts on people living before they were developed...) is one point in its favour (or not... maybe I'm projecting...)

Anyway - four men and a woman - and I think, if they had had time, they could have worked it out. Would have worked it out. In time. Except time was taken from them, with the whole Jack the Ripper thing, time and trust. And then they all had their own agendas, their own plans - and they could have been so great, together. All five. And now we just have the remains of something that never quite was, and it's sad. Ah well... I'm overanalyzing, probably - anyway, looking forward to the new season. Helen back in time, surely there must be more the Five from the word go, yes? All five of them? Yes?

re: Asexual Nikola Tesla

Hello, long time fan of irl Nikola, about to start watching Sanctuary...

I use to wiggle my eyebrows and joke that it's been said that Nikola doesn't go for women, but as delicious as Nikola slash would be, I think, IRL, considering his OCD and mysophobia, it's actually very probable then, that he never did have sex with another person after all - not from lack of desire, but from strong revulsion. Haha, this still leaves open the possibly of phone sex though!

This is how I justify the flirty Nikola I've been seeing in Sanctuary clips so far, being vampire is great for him, he doesn't have to worry about germs anymore, so he's much more sociable!
