About my current (ungainfull) employment

I'm still trying to decide whether to worry about the fact that a distressingly high number of people in my workplace and its immediate surroundings have actually been trained to kill, or to take comfort in the fact, that when the zombie apocalypse inevitably comes, it will probably be a pretty safe place to hang out. I mean, it has an actual moat. :-)

*snort* That is... certainly an interesting working environment! But, I like how you've managed to find the bright side -- surviving the zombie apocalypse, check!

Surviving the zombie apocalypse is kind of important. And I'm sure the new world order will need librarians, right? (and it actually is an interesting workplace, though not nearly as dramatic as it sounds, truth be told.)

Heh, I vote it's a good thing when the zombie apocalypse arrives - in all other aspects, I wouldn't be as sure ;-)
(But I'm a pacifist and always feel a bit odd about military persons.)

Actually, most of the people I'm actually working with are either civilians or retired military, so it's not like people are actually running around with guns or something. Mind you, there are weapons in the oddest places - like on the walls. Including something I'm pretty sure is a hellebard (jeg kan ikke huske det engelske ord...)

I actually attended Forsvarsakademiets New Year Parade thing today (which was certainly a somewhat odd experience), and most of the military personnel had some kind of sword or dagger along, mind you. How many of them who actually knows how to use those things, though? *shrugs* (Truth be told, I'm also a pacifist, but the library is so interesting - I have already spotten at least a dozen books I want to read - espionage during the Napoleonic wars, women fighter pilots during WWII, lovely, lovely books. Basically, the traditional hazards in the work place for a librarian. :-) )

Well, I didn't think so. I mean, I've taken walks in the area, and it's not like there's a lot of guns on display. (Btw. it's so awesome that we in Denmark can take a stroll to where the military high command have their offices and no-one bats an eyelash.) Nice with the bladed weapons, though, I kind of like those *G* (Halberd, isn't it?)

The parade sounds surreal *G* But the library does sound cool. Most libraries do, but still! ;-)

Or just show up at Christianborg and get in to watch the politicians do political stuff - admittedly, that's boring most of the time, but imagine trying to do the same in, say, Washington DC?

Yeah :-) Though, you have to go through a pretty thorough security check to get into Christiansborg. Metal detectors, x-rayed bags and coats etc. It's relatively recent, though.

Back in my early days of merry unemployment, I had a very, every so slight chance of maybe getting a work practice with a company manufacturing weapons parts. I couldn't do it at the time. Towards the end, I don't think there was much I wouldn't have done for the opportunity for work :o)

All things aside, it does sound like it could be a very interesting place to work, and hope it brings you good.

It is a very interesting place, so far - and unlike for instance Det Kongelige, Forsvarets Bibliotek is actually quite small, allowing me more of a chance to get my hands on all sorts of interesting bits of experience :-)

Now, if only somebody would actually pay me...
