Okay, so I find myself wondering what the proper netiquette is, when someone fills your prompt at a comment meme, except, well, except they didn't. And I am probably just going to ignore it, because frankly, it would feel kind of bitchy to answer it with "Thank you, this is a very nice ficlet, but it doesn't actually answer the prompt", you know?

However, as this is my journal, I am going to allow myself the luxury of bitching about it. So there.

Right, so I posted a prompt over at [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic. As you do. Well, I do, anyway. Asking for Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Bruce Banner, sometimes it feels like dying - because I've kind of grown to like the series and how that show treats Bruce makes me want to see more and see him explored and all sorts of things, because the way Bruce is treated is fucked up and annoying and frankly horrifying and anyway, I'm getting off-rant here (I have feelings and opinions and issues with the series - it's great, canon to argue with is always fun). What's relevant, though, is that the portrayal of Bruce Banner of A:EMH-verse has some pretty significant differences compared with, for instance, the movie-verse.

I posted a prompt and the prompt was filled. Yay, right? Except.

Except - well, if you're familiar with the series and read the fill, you've probably spotted it. The fill is about how it feels when Bruce de-hulks, how the Avengers treat him post-battle, how he feels like he might belong here, with them. Which would be fine and fitting if the prompt had been movie-verse. It's just, it wasn't movie-verse.

The fill talks of returning from hulking - except Hulk doesn't de-hulk post-battles. Hulk is Hulk almost all the time - he made a deal with Banner, in the first episodes, that he'd be an Avenger and would stop rampaging, if and only if he got the body - alone. Bruce comes out - rarely. In the second season we're told Bruce gets one day a month as Bruce. In the first season it is at one point mentioned how Bruce hadn't been let out in 6 weeks.

And as for bonding with the Avengers, feeling a part of them - would this be before or after Clint told him off, told him Hulk was the Avenger, not Bruce, that Bruce was as much an Avenger as Clint's bow? For crying out loud, Bruce is seen so rarely, I wouldn't be surprised if half the Avengers doesn't even know what he looks like - whatever reaction they have to an unmotivated post-battle-de-hulking, well, I doubt it would be this.

And honestly? I suspect the filler maybe doesn't even know that A:EMH is a thing, that they just thought I meant the movie - or, if I am to be less generous, they liked the prompt and thought "well, it's Bruce Banner, how different can it be?"

And I'm not going to say anything over there, I think, because it's annoying, but it's such a petty thing to be annoyed at, isn't it? "Oh woe is me, someone missfilled my prompt" - big deal. And I don't know how to say it without coming across as bitchy, anyway. It's just - it annoys me.

And if you read this far: thank you for letting me vent. This is [personal profile] oneiriad, signing off.

I'm sorry someone filled your EMH prompt with a movie fic. That sucks, especially considering how different the sources are. Fwitw I think that was a really great prompt -- I would love to see someone tackle that.

As for netiquette -- it's certainly an interesting question, isn't it! Probably the most tactful thing is doing exactly what you're doing -- keeping your mouth shut. The only thing that could probably come of saying anything to the fic-writer is that you put them in a bad mood, too. Probably they never meant to step on your toes in the first place.

Also, the prompt doesn't close just because someone filled it, right? Maybe someone else will come along and write an actual EMH fic.
