Fun - fun is sitting and surfing randomly at a school computer, waiting for my group partner, and listening to a group of students working on some project about Harry Potter and the effects of HP in the world. And by the sound of it they are looking at fanfic on a computer not half a room away - and I am feeling oddly amused, listening to the comments they make (and wondering whether they have stumbled over slash yet). Well, at least they sound like they are having a good time - they laugh a lot, that´s for sure.

*lol* Not my fandom either! I once won a Harry Potter book but I sold it because I didn't want to read it. And I haven't seen the movies.
Well, you have a point, they're early teens (14 or so), but a pairing like Sirius/Harry would rather shock me.
I guess that HP fans are a bit hardier to shocking things than we POTC fans. Just like the Troy fans (which includes me) who enjoy reading Paris/Hector incest (which doesn't include me at all). I think that's sick.

Considering that Troy takes place on a sort of side track to traditional Greek mythology, then no pairing should shock you - after all, according to myth Helena was abducted by Theseus while she was still a child (and subsequently rescued, of course) and Zeus is married to his own older sister - Greek mythology is not for the faint of heart. (Apart from that, Hector should be beating Paris up for bringing a great big war to their doorstep, not shagging him...)
No incest? So, I take it you´re not into Boondock Saints fandom, then?

Haven't heard of it. And you're right, it wouldn't even be logical for Hector to shag his brother. Has Paris actually done anything right in this story anyway?
Well, Greek mythology is rather interesting for me, not really shocking, but I don't enjoy reading it - and slash fanfiction is rather for entertainment, isn't it?

"and slash fanfiction is rather for entertainment, isn't it?"

Never really thought of any other possible purpose...

I hope I made at least some sense... *g*
And I couldn't think of another purpose either - at least not a reasonable one. ;) Yet there are a lot of people who read incest or rape fics and I always think: They can't enjoy that!

Hm...

Yet, there are people who would - some quite vocally - argue that our pure, innocent slash stories are perverse and hideous things and cannot fathom how anybody would want to write, let alone read such sick and twisted things!

Personally, I have always believed in "whatever floats your boat" when it comes to things like fanfiction (but please make a note in the summary if you think it won´t float somebody else´s boat).

I completely agree with you!
And I'd argue with everybody who insults our poor slash stories! Hmph. Ignorants!
