Okay, so a while back, I came across an advice column in Hjemmet mentioning asexuality, and today I spotted a mention of asexuality on DR's website, which turned out to lead to the latest episode of Sexministeriet*, which included a segment on asexuality - host talked with male asexual, host talked with female asexual, host gets asexuals together on date, end segment, host talks briefly with panel of sexologists (is that the right English word?), which includes Joan Ørting, because nobody can talk about sex in public in Denmark without including JØ (alas).

I'm sort of ambivalent - it wasn't a horrible segment. It's just - Hjemmet and Sexministeriet? Honestly, Denmark, is this your way of telling me we're nearly mainstream now? How am I to interpret this?

*Not my usual television fare - it's public service television, sex education directed at teenagers, of a sort that would probably make the kind of conservative Americans the media and the internet loves to focus on run screaming for the hills. I managed to zap past it once, and of course it had to be the infamous how-to-give-a-girl-a-squirting-orgasm episode, and - well, let's just say I'm really not the intended audience for this program, alright.

Uh. That is kind of strange… Possibly uplifting? Possibly really distressing. I hope asexuals go thorugh a smoother transition into general knowledge than we've seen with many other minorities.
And seriously, Danish media needs to get over JØ. She is horrible, narrow-minded, normative and just plain annoying too.

Agreed that the Sexministeriet thing sounds like it might not have been all that bad. Better than no info for teens, I guess. Especially for those who suddenly realise, that there are others who don't like sex as well and they aren't wrong or weird for that reason.
Urgh. Ørting really needs to shut the fuck up when she doesn't know what she's talking about. Which is everything not-standard-heterosexual-with-strong-normative-gender-roles. And seriously? Kissing genitalia?!? That sounds like what we'd call oral sex, yeah. Though I suppose kisses there can be chaste, too. Like a kiss anywhere else on the body. But still, why? *headshake*

That sounds like some excruciating TV, but I might need to check it out.

You're right that they're weird places for asexuality to crop up. I have actually also seen an article in Weekendavisen, which AFAIR amounted to "asexuality is a thing that exists". It had a really weird full-page image of a naked lady covered in rose petals? TOPICAL!

IDK, has there been an awful segment in Go'Aften or Aftenshowet yet? I think that's how you know you've made it from 'nonexistent' to 'weird other'.

"asexuals exist and seem fine with it"
Shocking news at 11! :D

I would actually be really interested in such search results!
