the author of that book is apparently going to be teaching Danish librarians about fanfic come february. At least it's just an hour and towards the end of a long day and surely it can't infect the entire library system with too many mistakes, right? Right?

Sadly, it's for public library people (and mostly the ones from Jylland and Fyn), not Royal Library people like me. Otherwise I'd actually be sort of tempted to sign up, partly because the other subjects of the day sound sort of interesting.

IMHO, a mail to the people who have booked her wouldn't be to much. And it will infect, I'm sure as so few Danes know anything about Fandom at all. So, wrong.

Do you know what really annoys me about this book? Not the straight-up mistakes, which could have been easily fixed if the author had stopped solely reading about it in academic books and just, I do know, maybe googled a few words for herself. It's not the focus on Twilight or any of that. It's not even her tendency to oversimplify everything and make categorical and sometimes offensive statements.

What annoys me the most is that I can see how this book could have been a different book - not the book I would have wanted to read, the real Danish book about fandom and fanfic - but the book I suspect the author thought she was writing. As in, a book about how fanfic and the fannish way of engaging with culture is becoming - or at least shaping the mainstream in Danish children's and teen's culture. All she'd have had to do was to specify that that was what she was doing and to not categorically state that all people involved with fanfic nowadays are kids. That's all. That would have been enough. But no, she couldn't even be bothered to do that much...

Well, you're a librarian, have worked in a public library, and are interested in the subject - if you're at all interested in going, it might be worth the expense just for the networking opportunities?

Well, it would be interesting and networking opportunities is always good - but the problem is, it's arranged by the public library system's internal education/course system. Which means that it's not really open for someone not working at a public library - if you try to register at the site, it wants to know which public library you work at, and if you don't, it wants your employer's information and their EAN number, which I sort of hesitate to do. And anyway, right now I don't even know where/if I'l be working come february (I currently have some hopes, but best not to let them get too high too soon.)

But as a private individual - sadly, it doesn't seem like a possibility. Which I sort of get, but it's annoying. Why couldn't it be the union instead of Centralbibliotekerne doing the arranging? (not that I would necessarily have had a chance at getting in there either - BF has all these subgroups determined by where and as what you work, and something like this might well only have been open to members of the relevant subgroup(s)).

Det er da egentligt underligt, at det er så lukket, da man vel sagtens kan være imellem arbejdspladser og stadig gerne vil holde sig opdateret? Nå.

Mindre underligt, når man tænker på, at udbyderen er en arbejdsplads (hvis man regner folkebibliotekerne samlet som en arbejdsplads), som udbyder kurser specielt rettet mod at opdatere sine medarbejdere, og det meste er enten meget specifikt rettet mod folkebiblioteksansatte eller mere generelle kurser, som også kan findes andetsteds. Hvis det havde været BF eller en anden organisation fra medarbejdernes side af hegnet der udbød kurserne, ja, så ville det have været mærkeligt hvis de var lukkede for ledige. Men det her - tja.
