Watching the first episode of Lilyhammer - about a mobster who goes into witness protection and asks to go to Norway. Currently I'm face-palming over the wiseguy's encounter with the many cultural differences between the US and Scandinavia...
I found the first episode amusing - but then, I seem to have developed a taste for series and movies that can be summed up as "genre television meets Scandinavian social realism" - Låt den rätte komma in, Äkta Människor, Lilyhammer. Now, if only Danish television would get around to making something along those lines...
I'm kind of bummed I missed Äkta Människor, but I loved Låt den rätte komma in. We actually watched that after you left Sunday; Skuf and Nora hadn't seen it before.
It was easy to miss - DR really didn't treat that show half as well as it deserved. I wound up watching half the episodes online somewhere they had French subtitles (I couldn't even find a decent download - ah well), simply because DR would only show them way past midnight, no reruns and no watch-for-a-week-or-so online options - though I suppose I should be happy Danish television even bothered to show it at all. De drabbade never made it that far, despite having Paprika Steen in a prominent role, and that was a fun show too, even if it had perhaps a few too many elements layered on top of each other.
I thought you were talking about watching a Doctor Who Christmas special - however did you get from that to gloomy Swedish winter with vampire?
I didn't realize they were showing it till it was half-way into the season and yeah, the timing was awful :-( I hadn't heard of De Drabbade, so that says something I guess…
I am not entirely sure. I think we dropped Who because we were so few left. So Nora went through the DVD drawers to see if I had some "hidden gold" and asked if we could watch that one. Since Skuf hadn't seen it either and there was snow, well, we did. They liked it too. I was glad to see it again, I hadn't since I got it.
