And I liked it. I'm now randomly wondering, though - why Khan was found by Marcus and not Kirk? I mean, clearly, Kirk and the Enterprise has had at least some of their original adventures (Mudd incident! Tribbles!). So why didn't Kirk and co. find him this time around? And if I'm getting the chronology right, they find Khan years ahead of schedule.

Of course, time will run differently, changes rippling out - but I suspect perhaps there is a more direct cause: Spock Prime. He's been hanging around for years and certainly, in this movie, he doesn't seem like a closely kept secret - oh, his existence doesn't seem like common knowledge, but neither does young Spock apparently feel the need to speak with him of alternate timelines in private - so I can't help but wonder: what did he do in those years, between his arrival in this time period and his meeting with Kirk? Did he keep hidden from everybody all along - or did he, perhaps, even if only briefly, have contact with Starfleet? Was he, at some point, debriefed? Possibly by a highranking admiral, polite and all, but still? Or less politely and perhaps employing techniques that Spock himself wouldn't be able to remember (this is a lot less utopic world, after all)?

Of course, everybody else has already had all the discussions while I've been staying away from spoilers and waited for the bloody movie to just get here already...

Anyway, I think I'll just be over here wondering if (or when) anybody has written the fanfic where Kirk doesn't have Scotty shoot Khan in the back and Khan surprisingly does come along back (not meekly, but then, does he do anything meekly?) to stand trial, only for that to backfire spectacularly, considering any trial against Khan will inevitably air a hell of a lot dirty laundry of Starfleet's and don't you tell me Khan wouldn't have the brains to play it to the hilt (Mass murder? - Yes, Your Honour, I blew up the military installation were I was forced - by the Starfleet Admiral threatening to murder my surviving crew - to develop illegal weapons in preparation for starting a war with the Klingon Empire.)

Oh, interesting thought re. Spock Prime's influence…!

Also, that fic probably isn't written yet, but who knows ;)
