I'm watching the first episode of this and I'm - annoyed. The premise is pretty basic - a special team working in the EU, investigating crimes that crosses the borders between European countries (apparently Europol doesn't exist in this 'verse?) - and it's so - American. Forty minutes in and I feel like I'm watching a pretty standard FBI crime show complete with jurisdiction fights.
Points for using actors from the actual countries the team members are from (allegedly from the Eurozone, except they got people from the United Kingdom too...) - minus points for having an American (retired due to issues) cop brought in to assist, because clearly the Europeans can't catch a serial killer on their own. Minus points for language - team speaking English with one another, yes, certainly, but two French police officers having a random argument in English? Minus point for having already had two instances of American cop making some American cultural reference and the other team members having to explain it to one another (as if American culture is particularly rare or mysterious), but no instances of the reverse so far. ETA: Minus points for one female team member getting to be the damsel in distress kidnapped by a serial killer and another getting flat-out fridged...
Ultimately, accents aside, I don't feel like this isn't some random crime show set in the States... and not even a particularly good one.
