It occurred to me yesterday, as I was considering what to nominate for Yuletide, that I'd give almost anything for a good, well-acted tv show version of Dennis Jürgensen's "Krøniker fra Kvæhl" novels.
I mean, imagine it. The books are pure 80s nostalgia at this point - so, the scenes set in our world would ride the same wave that "Stranger Things" and "Super-8", that sort of thing is playing with. And then the scenes in Kvæhl - not photorealistic, not obviously cgi, no, no, no. Gimme 80s fantasy - gimme "Legend" and "Labyrinth", deep and dark and twisted and with just a touch of the Warhammer game's aesthetic. Animatronics and practical effects and lots and lots of mist.
Just imagine it.
But this is Denmark and no, they're never going to make anything even remotely like that, are they? :-(
(I've just noticed that apparently the series was published in what Tellerup is claiming is a heavily revised and expanded edition a few years ago - I'm almost afraid to even consider ordering them from the library. What if they are ruined? Or if my love of those books are only nostalgia?)
