Coming home from the pleasant experience of watching a brand new duckumentary (well, the first half - apparently Don Rosa is a talkative guy) to find that apparently the first season of Due South is now freely available on Youtube? As well as a number of other Canadian tv shows*. That's a nice day.

(What is Slings & Arrows and why does that title sound oddly familiar to me?)

Slings & Arrows is a wonderful dark comedy-drama, complete in three seasons of six hour-long episodes each, about a Canadian Shakespeare repertory theater festival, based on the actual Stratford Festival. Each season is structured around one main tragedy: Hamlet (youth), MacBeth (middle age), and King Lear (senescence). The main character is played by Paul Gross (Fraser on due South); he is a formerly-brilliant actor who had a mental breakdown while playing Hamlet, and is now director of a struggling and penniless theater company. He is called by the New Burbage festival theater to take over directing Hamlet, as the former director - who was directing him when he had the breakdown - has been run over by a truck and killed. The former director's ghost haunts him, which is eerily reminiscent of due South! But it's a fabulous show, with intertwining storylines and a truly excellent cast. The core cast stays with the show through all three seasons, with guest stars for each season. I can't recommend it highly enough, though I really think one must watch the first two episodes before making a decision, because the first episode is before the director gets ghostified, and so is not characteristic of the show.

I don't understand how you could somehow forget what Slings & Arrows is, whether you've seen it or not (I haven't). I don't mean to be a bezzerwizzer, I literally am just baffled. Perhaps you haven't had any points of contact with C6D fandom?

Hmm yes, that makes sense :) I am of the other ilk - never had access to any of the shows, but because the fandom had some overlap with SGA, I've nonetheless read some fic :P

Due South! I remember watching that as it aired, and again later on Youtube when someone unofficial put it up.
