So, what am I getting up to these days? Not much. Spending the last of my vacation time for this year, just relaxing at home. Keeping up with the news about the strike/lockout. (Can someone tell me what would actually happen if one of those priests talking about ignoring the lockout (because apparently their divine calling is greater than doctors getting lockouted from patients...) actually does?)
Oh, this year's (the last year) CCC got announced today - Fogg's Off. A rousing bit of Jules Verne to send us all into the future - or just to tell us to go away, I suspect.
Which reminds me that I've been thinking of getting a ticket for Røde Orm at Ulvedalene in June in either week 24 or 25. Probably on a week night. Anybody might be tempted to go see vikings with me?
What I've recently finished reading
Maggie Stiefvater: The Dream Thieves
I don't know. I - didn't really feel like a lot happened in this book, as opposed to the first. I mean, yes, they figure out Ronan's powers, and we get Mr. Gray, but still - it felt like a lot less happened.
Anders-Peter Mathiesen: Søren og Mette i benlås
Considering the current situation, this makes for a depressing read. To be fair, it probably makes for a depressing read at any point.
Fred Van Lente: Ivar, Timewalker: Breaking History
Naoshi Komi: Nisekoi - False Love 1.
Yoshitoki Oima: A Silent Voice 2.
Nope. Neither of these worked for me.
China Miéville: October: the Story of the Russian Revolution
What a bloody mess. The revolution, I mean, not the book. Maybe the book a little - but mostly the revolution.
Ed Brubaker: Gotham Central Book One: In the Line of Duty
This was, strictly speaking, a re-read - I'd read the two paperbacks collected in this one before. Renee Montoya remains a favourite of mine just for this story (which is also the reason that I gave up so fast on the tv show Gotham, but that's an entirely different story).
What I've recently watched
10. Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets
Well - it's a gorgeous movie. Excellent special effects. Pity about the main characters being utterly dull. Is Valerian supposed to come across as that sleazy-pathetic from the word go?
11. American Horror Story: Freakshow
I could have lived without the body horror extravaganza, but considering the setting, it wasn't unexpected.
What I'm reading now
N.K. Jemisin's The Stone Sky
What I'm reading next
Probably Charles Stross' The Delirium Brief, but we'll see.
Total number of books and comics read this year: 45
