It´s foggy today. Now, admittedly, the air usually acquires a pretty misty quality some time after midnight on New Year´s Eve, but that is the kind that has a strong smell of fireworks and leaves you blinking from multicolored showers of light on the sky and wondering vaguely whether that last explosion really was just fireworks, surely it couldn´t be, so very loud it was, maybe someone didn´t make sure to block their mailbox and in the morning they will realice that they have to go buy a new one?
No, this is mist, heavy and white and nearly tangible, almost right outside my window, (maybe the bog wife is having a new year´s party?) and it is barely half past eight - and even though the booms of fireworks have been going all day (and what exactly is the fun of fireworks in broad daylight, anyway? - after dark, yes, sure, pretty, but in daylight?) this mist is the ordinary kind. It is going to be interesting to see exactly how foggy it will manage to get once midnight comes around. I don´t think I have ever seen such a foggy New Year´s Eve.
But it has been nice so far - good food, and I watched the Queen´s speech (no surprise there, really). She is usually very well rehearsed when giving her New Year´s speech, but it did not flow quite as well this year - but then, she probably had to make some last minute changes and consequently didn´t have as much time to rehearse it in... but it was good, mentioned all the sad things and all the happy things, that she ought to mention - a proper New Year´s Speech, really (though she forgot "øens og søens folk").
And now I will relax and idle the time to midnight away - maybe look at some fireworks, probably watch "Dinner for one"... (unlike some members of my family, I have not seen it 50 times already, so I have not yet grown tired of it)
Oh yeah, before I forget: Happy New Year!
