And tomorrow I'll be seeing Captain Marvel. So there's that.
Tried the new Indian place in town for dinner tonight. Won't be doing that again. I mean, the naan was nice...
What I've recently finished reading
Ken Krimstein: The Three Escapes of Hannah Arendt
Bernard Cornwell: War of the Wolf
I wonder how long this series is going to be. As many books as Sharpe? Anyway, it's a nice, relaxing read.
Tim Seeley: Grayson: A Ghost in the Tomb
Naomi Novik: Spinning Silver
Meïr Aron Goldschmidt: En Jøde
I liked the first two thirds of the book, with Jakob Bendixen growing up and eventually falling in love. The third part, where he runs off to Algeria to join the Foreign Legion - this was a thing to do in the 19th century? That bit just felt a bit weird. And I really could have lived without the misogyny of Jakob's Christian ex-fiance getting married to his rival and then immediately having affairs, being no better than she should be. Really, the whole novel - women are just props in it, aren't they?
Charles Stross: The Labyrinth Index
I like how this series has grown. Like Mhari, the main character in this novel, and in some of the early ones she was a minor - not even really a villain, just an obstacle for Bob. And now she's a fierce vampire spy/diplomatic serving the eldritch Prime Minister vs. Cthulhu. As you do.
Lois McMaster Bujold: Penric's Demon
Cute, but pretty generic. Nice young man accidentally acquires scary powers, people around him are suspicious of him being able to control said scary powers, tiny exciting event makes people more inclined to trust him. I mean, it's a nice start/introduction, but it doesn't feel very original.
Greg Rucka: Lazarus: Conclave
I'm very much enjoying the world-building of this sf series, the genetically enhanced Lazari and their being friends with one another, despite being from rival families.
Rick Remender: Venom: Circle of Four
Wait - since when is there a female Ghost Rider? Never mind, not exactly a comic worth reading this one.
What I've recently watched
13. Jordskott season 1.
This should have been right up my alley - mysterious creatures in the forest, weird magical parasites that'll heal your wounds and give you strength and turn you into a plant if you're not careful - but - not really. Oh well.
What I'm reading now
J.D. Robb's Conspiracy in Death, Mette Sejrbo's Vampyrens pagt, which proves that Twilight didn't exist in vain, and Det okkulte Danmark by Bo Bomuld Hamilton-Wittendorff.
Total number of books and comics read this year: 46
