Ah, vacation.

What I've recently finished reading

Lars Henriksen & Thomas Kim Rasmussen: Verden vil betages: marquisens vidunderlige rejser og eventyr
Aka the completely true autobiography of the Marquis de Sade. No, not that one. The Danish one. The bisexual 60s celebrity who ended up serving time for embezzling from his employer. Don't listen to the people remarking that it's strangely convenient how the proof of his title being legitimately bought from the Vatican is stuck in a Swiss bank vault that he's lost the combination to. Honestly, he seems like a nice and colourful person.

The Darker Side of Slash Fan Fiction: Essays on Power, Consent and the Body
I found most of this collection quite interesting. It's basically following a central theme that can be summed up as "the classic academic explanation for slash fanfic involves how it allows for stories about truly equal relationships and subverting traditional gender norms, but then, why are people writing all these things???" I mean, abusive relationships, a/b/o re-imposing gendered power dynamics, dub-con, etc. And it's quite interesting to read about this from different angles. I must admit, though, the chapter I liked the least was the one involving race and Captain America fandom, and I think it might well have been because, well, the other chapters mostly involved "this is what people are writing and here are some thoughts about that", while this chapter was "this is what people are not writing and this is problematic," and it feels a bit out of place. Oh well...

Birgitte Jørkov: Vesten for Øret

Sussi Bech: Nofret - samlede historier I
Nofret is a famous Danish comic book series about a young woman and her adventures in ancient Egypt and the surrounding areas. I must admit, I've never read it before - shame on me, but I think I developed an allergy to "stuff everybody else has read and claims is good" at some point, after having been burned too many times. And honestly, I read Aida Nur and wasn't impressed, but I'd already picked this collection up at the library, so I read it, and I liked it very much. It's gorgeous and Nofret is - frankly a bitch, but I like her.
