I'd ask about the spinks (sp?) but you told me about them before. So what's "the future is wild"?

From: [identity profile] oneiriad.livejournal.com

Actually, those two things are related - "The future is wild" is a tv-series from Animal Planet, that attempts to guess at how the animals of the future will be. It will - apparently - be full of flying fish, landdwelling squids, psychosharks, giant turtles - and spinks. You can read about it here: http://animal.discovery.com/convergence/futureiswild/futureiswild.html

Anomander Rake is a character from the fantasy book series "The Malazan Book of the Fallen" by Steven Erikson - the series is pretty good, occasionally more like historical war novels than your average fantasynovel. But Rake is my favourite part of the series - mysterious, powerful, almost a god - shame he has only appeared in two of the books so far...

Who is the Marquis de Carabas and what's so special about him?

*will immediately confiscate meme for own lj*

Ah, the Marquis... He is a character from Neil Gaiman´s novel / television series "Neverwhere", a mercenary and a dealer in favours, possibly able to do magic, arrogant as hell, quite dashing, nasty when needed - What´s so special? If I told you he reminds me of the good Captain Jack an awful lot in several ways, would that give you a hint? They are both tricksters, really. Besides, how can you not love a guy who, when the hero tells the heroine to not do it. "We don´t matter.", states: "Actually, I matter very much. But I have to agree. Don´t do it." If you can´t tell, then I am awfully fond of this guy.

Oh, look, somebody made the guy a webpage... http://www.internationalhero.co.uk/c/carabas.htm

Captain Jack, you say? Heee - that's perfectly understandable! How can one not love people like that? And the line you quoted sounds pretty much like him... *giggles*
I think I'll read a Neil Gaiman novel soon!

Dunno about odd, but I don't know what anomander rake and sparrington are. The rest seem quite delightful to me! :)

From: [identity profile] oneiriad.livejournal.com

Well, I explained Anomander Rake a few comments up...

Sparrington - sparrington is a slash pairing, to be precise the pairing of Captain Jack Sparrow and Commodore James Norrington from the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean: the curse of the Black Pearl". Sparrow + Norrington = Sparrington :-)
