I think I just watched the last episode of "This life" - *finds episode guide to check* - jep, just watched the last episode.

This series actually sort of grew on me - the first episodes I watched for one reason, I admit it, and that was Jack Davenport - even though his character, Miles, struck me as somewhat bland - not to mention in possension of a terrible taste in women... Then along comes season two - halfway through it´s goodbye Warren, who was my favourite character until then, and hello Ferdy (his replacement as gay character). And Miles suddenly grew a lot more homophobic - I mean, he was a little bit in the first part of the series, but it was not so bad, but with Ferdy around he starts making stupid jokes and act like a complete asshole. And yet the weird thing about Miles is, he can be an asshole and a nice guy at the same time - actually he manages to do so most of the time. Like towards the end, when Ferdy has gotten himself a boyfriend, the scottish plumber Lenny, and Miles nearly ruins it - and Miles proceeds to make a complete fool of himself trying to get them back together... Actually, there is something going on - I am suspicious about the sudden increase in homophobia in Miles. The slasher in me thinks there must be some interesting reasons behind. And these last episodes... ah, but is it bad of me to want Miles to dump both his older (practically cradlerobbing) bride and Anna and elope with Ferdy (cute Mexican guy) and Lenny (cute freckled Scottish guy)?

The really annoying thing about this last episode, though - it´s too open ended! Relationships wrecked, hearts broken, Warren returning as the very last - and I do mean very last - thing you see. I want to know what happens next! I suppose the network was hoping for another season and was leaving storylines open for it, like they always do, but it is still annoying. Ah, well - no more "This life", then - except I am going to have to telepathically lobby for a rerun, so I can get a chance to see the two episodes I missed...

Ohhhh, you had This Life on TV? I'm envious. I've got the whole first series and the first six episodes of series two. I'll have to get off my lazy (and busy) behind, and get myself the others from my English video rental these days.

I haven't seen the episodes you talk of yet (although I do know Ferdy), but I will say that Miles's homophobia definitely isn't that present in the earlier episodes. (yes, he's an ass, or arse, rather, but he's Jack Davenport! And way too sexy not to defend him) There this one episode where Warren hooks up with Ferdy, and then wants to call him and talks dirty to Ferdy's dad! Miles tries to let him see the funny side of it, and tries to makes him feel better about it. And gives him a beer. And when an angry Ferdy shows up, Miles is all ready to protect Warren. *heart*

Which two episodes did you miss?

a short addendum: If the slasher-reasons for Miles's increase in homophobia were true, I'd do anything, anything possible to make them do a third series. (yes, I know, they've long stopped shooting)

The episodes I missed was titled "Just sex" and "Father figure", according to various episode guides - nr. 9 and 10 of the first season... :-(

A third series would be a wonderful thing - because it is, to me, so obvious that there has to be some reason for Miles´ behaviour. With Warren he is always friendly (well, as friendly as Miles can be) and nice and the only time I remember him getting mad and using homophobic insults, he is extremely apologetic afterwards. But season two Miles is a homophobe - no question about that. So what is the difference? Does the lady simply protest too much...?

Warren is so cute! And Miles is an arse, but well, that's what he is. And he's far too sexy so I can't really be angry with him.

P.S.: I'M SO ENVIOUS! Know that!
