This is nothing new, really. I read a lot of books. Far too many, some people would say (people who are not me, that is, because I am of the conviction that you can never read too many books - usually (I suppose there are special cases where it is possible, but I have yet to encounter one personally)).

Well, anyway, as I was saying, I read a book.

It is not the best book I have ever read (not that I could tell you exactly which one is, but, well *shrugs*). The writing is occasionally stilted, the story occasionally reads like a romance novel (which I suppose it should, since it sort of is, but), and more than once I got a sudden, strong urge to give the author a synonym dictionary for Christmas (this often occured right after Sir Francis Drake had said something bluffly).

But despite its faults it is quite an entertaining read. There are a couple of nice main characters and they are quite sweet together (a couple of times too sweet, but so what), and they even get to have a bit of character development (the book stretches over seven years - truth be told I would have worried if they had not had any at all). There is a truly evil villain or two, a tiny bit of angst (sort of) - oh yeah, and ships, cannons, pirates (sorry - privateers (technically)), swordfights - you know, the whole Age of Sail paraphernalia...

What made me read it? How could I resist a book that claims to be "a swashbuckling romance in the best gay pirate tradition"?

Damn... don't suppose you'd loan it to me. I could swap you for a yet-to-be-defined number of het romance novels, though I'd want them back as well.

I´m afraid I think the Danish library system would probably not be very happy with me if I started lending their books to people - they tend to prefer to do that themselves...

Oh, the library had it? Spiffy, I can just ILL it, then.

I was recommended it, too! And I thought about buying it, but it's too expensive for me at the moment...

Most of the time I cannot afford to buy the books I want to read - which is a very important reason why I love the library system :-) But the book is pretty good - you really should read it.

By the by, en synonym ordbog is called a "thesaurus" in English. Don't ask me why; I still think it sounds like some kind of dinosaur.
