I am mildly embarassed on behalf of my country because they had to use a locomotive from 1954 (which had to be fetched from the museum it was exhibited in) to keep the trains going somewhere on Fyn in the blizzard that seems to be going on in every part of Denmark except where I am living, because the modern trains cannot be properly equipped with snow ploughs. Then again, we are talking the Danish railways here - how could I possibly have expected that the trains used in a Scandinavian country that usually gets some snow every winter could possibly handle it? How very unreasonable of me.

How amusing. Yet also strangely reassuring, because in this country (the UK) we tend to believe we have the worst train services in Europe. The most famous excuse given by officials for delayed trains being "leaves on the line". At least they are keeping the trains going in some fashion, rather than cancelling them altogether!

Oh, we get the "leaves on the line" to, as well as lack of personel and also lots of problems with the signals (the train signals in Denmark are old, very old - haven´t been replaced in a very long time). The best excuse ever, though, that was the first spring the Copenhagen Metro system was working - sometimes it would stop - because of sunlight!
