The facts are these: I have finally managed to find a job. Yay. And it's in Esbjerg.

This means that RL recently has been pretty much full of apartment hunting and packing and spending way too much money on furniture and figuring out how many people and places have to informed about my moving and wednesday will be Big Moving To Jutland Day.

The thing is, though, that I don't really know Esbjerg. No family around, barely passed through on vacation. I know some stuff - fairly large for a Danish town, fish, big white men, ferry to England - that kind of thing. But I don't really know stuff and now I'm going to be living there.

And this is the request part. Dear flist, I have a camera - admittedly a battery-devouring, temperamental camera, but I have it and there will be pictures taken of my new apartment - dear flist, send me on a treasure hunt. Tell me what to find and photograph. A local bus, a statue, the oldest house in town, a bench, a duck, whatever. Go wild. Be inventive. Ask for one thing, ask for ten, ask for twenty. Go wild. Give me an excuse to go out and explore the town.

Please? :-)

I got lost driving in Esbjerg last year, trying to find those famous big white sculptures which are supposed to be down at the waterline somewhere, overlooking the sea. If you want to, consider that your first assignment ;)
Re-reading that before hitting 'post' I saw that you mentioned them. Anyway. lol. Try to find them, if you feel like it.

And congrats on the job, of course!

Mmm, when I move to a new city (and I just did it, so these are all things that I'm currently doing now) my priorities are to find the used bookstores, one or two nice little cafes, the ones where locals eat, and the local pet stores. I don't know what your interests are, so find and take a picture of one out of those three :)

I'm, with poetic_self about the statues too. I'd love to see a picture of those.

Congratulations on your new job!

Here are some ideas:

the train station
the town hall
a statue
a poster for upcoming events at a theatre or arts centre
a hotel
a postbox
a flower display
a building with interesting brickwork
a pond or lake
a street sign
a street lamp
a building with one or more towers or turrets
a boat or ship

Congratulations! I would love to see photos of any historical sites around your new town - houses, castles, harbor, etc.

Many congratulations to you! Have fun settling in and in any new place I go to, I always like to find the museums and any churches (I always love to see what the architecture is like in comparison to the many others I've seen).

So a picture of a museum or church would be nice. Oh! And also, if you see street that catches your fancy, snap a picture! Have fun in Esbjerg!

Go down to the ferry harbor at a time when the ferry to Harwich is arriving or leaving. If you're feeling remarkably un-Danish, talk to Brits getting on or off!

Also, come up to Aarhus for a weekend and visit. :)
