Just came home from a trip down to the harbour to see this year's Baltic Sail. Not that it was that terribly exciting. Whoever was making the arrangements in Elsinore had only managed to get a very few large ships to come, and the biggest one - Georg Stage - was only there today, and only as a last minute addition. I considered going aboard to explore it - until I saw the crowd of people who had gotten the same idea. Changed my mind then, mainly because I didn't want to be the proverbial straw...

Random thought: If I had somehow managed to develop my interest in the age of sail somewhat sooner (as in: while I was still attending gymnasium), I think I would have liked taking a year aboard Georg Stage - just for fun, you understand. Well, except for the fact that I have a tendency to get seasick.

Anyway, Baltic Sail. I think I liked it better last year...

Second random thought: Danish navy goes to the Caribbean. Cool. :-)

Mmmh... Danish Navy. I'm still pissed off there's no Bavarian Navy.

That would certainly help, yes, but it makes me angry that I can't do anything about that. *pout*

I think I'd love to take a barefoot cruise--it wouldn't be for a year, but it'd be a few weeks on the sea.

That would be lovely too, yes. But Georg Stage is no cruise ship and no relaxing vacation - it's a school ship, and you bloody well learn to sail it. For many, it's the first step in their chosen career - for others, it's a chance to try something different for a while (instead of Interrail or backpacking in the Far East). But a barefoot cruise, now that sounds appealing too...

Yeah...my saner half isn't into AoS, but loves sailing as much as I do.

And, *squee!*, his sister might be able to arrange for us to become part of a friend's trip from California to Hawaii on his sailboat--if he's willing to have a couple of inexperienced crew members.

Shame.... a few of the ships at the HanseSail were headed for Denmark afterwards, thought they'd have provided some fun!

Well, there was ships - "Georg Stage", "Eye of the Wind", "Baltic Beauty" and some others. The problem was that by far the most of the ships present was of the small, privately owned kind and since Elsinore harbour is not so terribly huge to begin with... Oh well, I hope they manage better next year, with the 10-year-anniversary and all.

Does seem last year's was better than this year. Too bad about the Georg Stage and the crowd.

Danish navy goes to the Caribbean. Cool. :-)
I second that. ^_^

Maybe next year's will be even better than last year's - or so I hope... :-)
