There's a shady pay-for-e-books website that's stolen some of my stories.

I feel so proud. And pissed off. I'm conflicted. (But it is kinda like a fannish rite-of-passage, isn't it?)

Anyway, there's a tumblr post that explains it far better than I can and I think you might want to go take a look, because I did a few checks and there's several people I know. It looks like they're bot-harvesting from AO3 and AO3/OTW seems to be on the case, but still.

Even better - I have, just by randomly clicking on author's names, found a children's book published by Simon & Schuster. I think I'm going to head over to Making Light and ask how I should report these bozos to the Big Six publishing companies on the latest Open Thread.

Given that Making Light is owned by a Tor editor and a retired Tor editor, it should be fun.

There's no kill like overkill!

Seriously, if they thought no one would notice, or most people would be stopped by the thought of lawyers' fees, they shouldn't have stolen stuff from the commercial publishing industry. Which has lawyers on staff at most of the US publishing houses; I'm not sure about the academic presses, but hmm, universities often have *law schools*.
