Being about 50 pages short of having finished The System of the World, I have this to say: I like Jack Shaftoe. A lot. Young, middleaged, old (well, relatively) - I like him. And now I will go and have a go at trying to finish the book, so I can come back to the internet and try to remember what that community for crossovers between Neal Stephenson's trilogy and PotC is called (and hopefully someone will have written some nice Jack-meets-Jack somewhere)...

Thank you for that link, looks like I will have plenty to read in this alone before having to go searching insatiably for more. Did my eyes deceive me, or did one of those stories/series have 76 posts?

Well, I'm remembering how utterly blown away I was when I first read these fics (thanks to a rec by geek_mama_2 for which I am eternally grateful), and you are about to hop on this roller-coaster, and I'm excited for you. I can't wait to see what you think!

You haven't read the books. But, but - they got pirates in them. And vagabonds. And natural philosophers. And odalisques. And alchemists. Puritans. Corsairs. Spies. Coiners. Samurais. Jesuits. French nobility (with unnatural habits). And Qwghlm. And, if my memory serves, something along the lines of 3000 pages worth of story. And you haven't read them? Why haven't you read them?

I haven't read them because I didn't know about them until I read these magnificent fics! But now I know of them, and now I in fact have them, and today I start. Yay!!
